Closing down Composer

Update: Apologies to everyone who posted a comment, comment notifications were broken, so we didn’t see them. We assumed nobody had noticed. Thanks for your support, will try to follow up on comments that wanted a reply shortly…

As of now, registration is closed. I still use Composer personally, so I’ll keep the service online for some time. However, users should migrate to other services and expect that at some point the service will go offline.

Any accounts that look like spam are liable to be deleted immediately and without warning.

No Support

As of today, we’re also suspending all support. We’re unable to respond to any support requests. Please use another service instead.

Thanks

Thanks to all our users over the last couple of years. Unfortunately signups and usage never really took off, and have been declining recently. The service costs money to host, takes time to maintain, and hasn’t produced any income or revenue of any kind. It’s just not practical to maintain it any more. Sorry for any inconvenience this might cause.

If anyone is passionate about the service and would like to take over hosting and maintaining it, feel free to reach out in the comments.

Disappointing, but understandable… Wish there was a model that was profitable for some that was somewhat simple like you and ping.fm were.

that´s a shame. i love the clean surface and the whole idea and thing you built.
im sure i won´t find anything like it anywhere else.
if there is something that could replace your website – please let me know

I was afraid I would one day see this kind of message, I concur with Paul — there is no real replacement for this, which is why I have been using it for so long.

Thanks for the hard work you guys put into it, and it’s a shame it never did take off and become profitable.

All the best, then. I can’t fault you for not wanting to continue the expense.

    Hey Callum,

I migrated from Tweetdeck to this and had been in love with this ever since then and true that I have never found another user in my social media timelines who has used this as well.

I am really pained to read about this. Could there be a way to save this via some campaigns? Running campaigns struck down too? I have no clue about how much it costs you to maintain it, please do let me know on it. I would love to support in the best extent I could possibly afford.

Wish I could step in and help out. After the last service shut down that was similar, took a while to find one, which was Composer. Thank you for your work on this. As with others, if there is another site similar, would appreciate hearing about it.

    Hey Callum,

While I don’t really know what service was hosted here, I must say that it’s sad that it was closed down.
It is such a shame to have this domain go to waste, if not properly used.
As a student, I have many interesting ideas to work on, and I’m hoping to build an app for music composition, and this domain seemed like my best chance.

Please let me know if that’s a possibility.

    Thanks!

    Hi Callum,

Just checking in to see if you managed to find anyone that was willing to carry this project forward.

I was looking myself at making a similar service this last week and so I would be happy to carry it forward myself.

If you are up for a discussion feel free to reach out to my email.

Imho this is a great service for modern marketing. A real time saver that probably would generate income if more people know of how simple efficient and effective this can be! What about a unique model of pay per use or team with another company? Other paid services are no better..composer just needed word out.
Best of luck and thank you for proving this marketing works for my artworks business.

This is a wonderful service and i would like to continue hosting this in my server. Please let me know if you can share the code or make it opensource for everyone to improve.
